Bio-Data

Born and brought up in the city of Ludhiana, the Manchester of Punjab, Deep Jagdeep Singh, realized his dream of shifting his professional base to the capital city, New Delhi in the year 2008. It was not that he just casually landed there. His sheer dedication, hard work, goal-oriented actions helped him in reaching for new horizons. Being successfully established as the Script Writer in the most prestigious Punjabi channel, PTC was not something that landed in his kitty. He earned this for himself.

Although writing has been in his blood (he being the third generation after his grandfather and father), yet he is the first one in his family to take up writing as his profession. His grandfather, was the founder president of Punjabi Sahit Sabha, Jagraon. His father too tried his hand at writing prose and lyrics. Deep Jagdeep Singh got his basic training in Punjabi ghazal writing from Ustaad (Late) Ulfat Bajwa Ji, a noted Punjabi ghazal writer.

He also has as his backbone an experience of eight years of working in the print media. At present too he is known for his highly opinionated columns on human rights, language, identity, culture, politics, literature and cinema published across the various contemporary media platforms including newspapers, magazines, journals and web media.

Being a master of words, he is a good translator too. By now he has in his kitty quite a few critically acclaimed titles/books translated in to English, Hindi and Punjabi. You can have a look at the list of his translations.

This go-getter has contributed the lyrics to the songs in various Punjabi films and TV Shows. Further he is working with many big names of the Industry on bigger projects which are yet to release in near future. In 2015 he left a full time media job in Delhi and shifted his base at his hometown Ludhiana, though he shuttles between Punjab, Delhi and Mumbai for his professional commitments.

In his own words he describes his mission of life as below:

“After an eventful career of approximately 15 years in print, broadcast media, TV entertainment world and film industry, in year 2015 I took a leap to work for peace advocacy, development and literary journalism. I have done in-depth research in the field of communication, Journalism as an academic subject and a profession along with promoting the new technology as a tool for the growth and conservation of regional languages and dialects. I want to work for peace and freedom of expression along with promotion of my own mother tongue Punjabi globally. “
-Deep Jagdeep Singh, January, 2018

Here is a glimpse of his journey from a simple boy-next-door to highly opinionated peace activist:
